It's peel season!
Cooler temperatures and lower UV levels make the fall, winter, and early spring the best time to do a chemical peel.
What is a chemical peel?
Believe it or not, chemical peels have been around since the mid-1800s, chemical peels use acid to break down the top layer, or layers, treating fine lines and wrinkles, large pores and dark spots, and help tighten the skin.
A peel allows your skin to shed off a layer, making room for new, healthier skin. As it sloughs off tired, dull skin cells it stimulates fresh healthy skin, allowing for accelerated cell turnover and gives collagen-making cells a kick start.
There are many types of chemical peels, Skin Diva offers superficial and medium depth.
What will I feel during a peel?
You will most likely feel a prickly or itching sensation with some heat. It will subside and you may experience some redness for 20 minutes to half an hour afterward.
What happens after a peel?
After the service, you will immediately notice an overall brightening and glow to the skin. Not everyone will "peel" in the days to come but rest assured that the acid is penetrating through the skin to make changes. Your skin may feel tight and dry and could be flaky around day 3 as skin is going through the regenerative process.
In the days following a chemical peel, drink lots of water and use a gentle cleanser and hydrating serum or gel, like one that contains hyaluronic acid to help soothe the skin. Staying out of direct sun and wearing a broad-spectrum SPF is imperative as your skin is healing.
A series of 3-6 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart is recommended to achieve desired results as everyone's skin is different.
