Apple cider slushies are the perfect thing to keep in your freezer for an icy cold anytime treat. Scraping it with a fork to create the slushie consistency is oddly satisfying and a technique we borrowed from granitas. You could even take these to the next level make a homemade apple cider and impress everyone!
3 c. apple cider
1 lemon, juiced
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 mini cinnamon sugar donuts (garnish)
Pour cider, lemon juice and cinnamon in a loaf pan, whisking to combine.
Freeze for 1 hour.
Remove the cider mixture from the freezer and use a fork to scrape the slush-like mixture, so it doesn't turn into a giant ice cube. Once fully scraped and stirred, return it to the freezer for 1 hour more.
Remove the cider mixture from the freezer once again, using a fork to scrape and stir it into a slush-like consistency. The consistency should be like shaved ice. If it's not frozen enough for your tastes, pop it back in the freezer for another 45 minutes. Otherwise, spoon into glasses and garnish rim with mini donut.

Hemp seed oil is considered the single perfect source of essential fatty acids because it contains a balanced ratio of EFAs for optimal absorption. EFA’s are just as effectively absorbed through topical application on the skin. Slather on vegetable and botanical oils like hemp seed, safflower, soybean, and sunflower. In fact, in studies, just 7 days of daily application of EFA-rich oils (as mentioned above) completely transformed skin ailments like itchy, red, dry, flaky, uncomfortable dermatitis conditions.
What is hemp?
Hemp (Cannabis Sativa) is a hearty, fast-growing plant with fibers that have been used to create rope, fabrics, and more. Its seeds and oil have been used in foods for nutrition. The extracts of the full plant (leaves, stem, flowers, etc) just became legal to grow and use in the US, and the phytonutrients in these extracts are plentiful.
Is it legal?
Yes! In the US, thanks to the passage of the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill, which legalized the production and sale of all parts of the hemp plant, we can now reap the benefits of this marvelous plant through skincare in the spa and at home!
What are phytonutrients?
Many phytocannabinoids are found when hemp plant’s leaves, stems, buds, and flowers are extracted. Do not confuse any of these with THC, which is found in high levels in marijuana. THC is minimal to zero in industrial hemp, and in fact, you must show verified proof of THC content less than 0.3%.
What do phytocannabinoids do?
In terms of skincare, studies reveal that hemp extracts have many beneficial antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help the body fight free radical damage which means it:

September is Skin Care Awareness Month.
Here are some steps to get back to the basics of caring for your skin.
Step 1: Assess your skin type and its needs. According to Dr. Lotika Singh of Schweiger Dermatology Group, knowing your skin type is very important when it comes to choosing the right skincare products. “Using products meant for oily skin on sensitive/dry skin can be harsh and irritating. Conversely, using overly hydrating/thick creams may cause breakouts in oily/acne-prone skin,” Dr. Singh said.
Step 2: Check expiration dates, clear your vanity and clean your tools. It’s time we started holding our products and tools to the standard they deserve. Do you know the expiration date of your products? It’s much more serious than a loss of effectiveness—it has the potential to cause unwanted irritation. We know cleaning might not always be a high priority but keeping your vanity clear can help prevent the transfer of bacteria, as will regularly cleaning your tools. Plus, it will help lengthen their lifespans!
Step 3: Understand the benefits of exfoliation. As a general rule of thumb, acne-prone and highly sensitive skin responds very well to chemical exfoliants because they are less likely to cause irritation. If you prefer a physical exfoliant, the best product for you depends a great deal upon the thickness and sensitivity of your skin. According to Gary Goldfaden, M.D., exfoliation, in general, is essential to maintaining smooth skin and keeping wrinkles and discoloration at bay. “Exfoliation is the base of all healthy-looking skin,” Goldfaden said.
Step 4: Apply your products in the proper order. This will ensure that your skin receives the full benefits of each product. For example, if you applied a cream-based product first followed by a serum, the cream’s emolliency would prevent the serum from reaching the skin.
Step 5: Make sure you’re applying the correct quantities. Do you know how much of your beauty and skincare products you should be using? If you’re using too much, you’re not only wasting your money, but you could also potentially be causing damage to your skin!
